President looks forward
At the 54th meeting of the UEAtc Co-ordination
Commission, held recently, Mr Juan Monjo Carrio, Director of the
Eduardo Torroja Institute, for Construction Science (IETcc) was
unanimously re-elected as President of UEAtc.
In accepting the post for a further term,
Mr Monjo remarked on the continued importance of the UEAtc as a
European network that is dedicated to the assessment of innovation
and to facilitating the movement of construction products between
countries. He noted that in two years time the UEAtc will celebrate
its fiftieth anniversary and with it the issue of over seventy
technical guides for assessment of innovative construction
products, plus hundreds of certificates of confirmation i.e. the
acceptance of the technical work from one member institute by
another. While there were great challenges to be faced by the
members in the coming year, most notably those associated with the
revision of the Construction Products Directive, he was confident
that UEAtc was equipped to address these in a manner that would
yield opportunities for the network and the individual members. He
congratulated the members of the Technical Commission on the
endorsement of the UEAtc Technical Report ‘Assessment of Risk
associated with Prototype Products’ and he looked forward to the
results of the continuing work on Environmental Impacts of
Construction Products. The UEAtc would continue to develop its
services to the whole range of stakeholders in the construction
industry, and to continue working in close collaboration with
manufacturers, architects, regulators and insurers in the issue of
approvals.
